Apprentices, tradespeople, graduates and early-career workers have a new pathway to home ownership, with Keystart’s Skilled Start Home Loan launched today.

Skilled Start offers a low two per cent deposit, no lender’s mortgage insurance, lower mortgage repayments and free financial coaching, to help make the dream of an affordable home a reality for more Western Australians.

The Skilled Start Home Loan is available for anyone who has begun or completed their formal apprenticeship, or graduated from TAFE or university, in the past five years.  It is also open to people who have worked in eligible construction occupations over the past five years – including bricklayers, carpenters, roof tilers, electricians and other key trades.

To support Western Australians at an early stage in their career into home ownership, Skilled Start includes a discount on Keystart’s standard variable interest rate, as well as free financial coaching to build financial capability and resilience.

Keystart Chief Executive Officer Mark Tomasz said Skilled Start would open up more opportunity for home ownership for younger Western Australians.
“Through a low two per cent deposit, no lender’s mortgage insurance, lower mortgage repayments and free financial coaching, Skilled Start will help to make the dream of an affordable home a reality for more Western Australians.
“By providing free financial coaching at the start of the home ownership journey, we’re helping to build financial capability and set young Western Australians up for long-term success.”

Skilled Start is available for purchases of up to $750,000 for off-the-plan, under-construction and new homes, or $700,000 for established homes.

Keystart’s standard income limits apply – $148,000 for singles and $218,000 for couples or families, except in the Pilbara and Kimberley, where income limits are $225,000 for singles and $285,000 for couples or families.
