What you need to know about Skilled Start Home Loan 

Who is eligible?

The Skilled Start Home Loan offers a low 2 per cent deposit, no lender’s mortgage insurance, and a 1 per cent discount on Keystart’s standard variable interest rate, as well as free optional financial coaching for customers.  

Skilled Start is all about helping early career Western Australians into a home of their own – it’s open to anyone who, within the last five years, has: 

  • started or completed a formal apprenticeship,
  • graduated with a Certificate III or higher (Certificate IV, Diploma, Bachelor or higher qualification) in any area of study, 
  • started working as a skilled worker in an eligible building and construction occupation and is still working in this field (see full list of skilled occupations here),
  • graduated from the WA Police Academy, or an equivalent Australian Police Academy, and is currently employed in that field,
  • graduated from the WA Fire and Emergency Services Academy, or an equivalent Australian Emergency Services Agency, and is currently employed in that field, or
  • started a recognised recruit or trainee program with a Police Academy or Emergency Services Agency.
